A synagogue in Jerusalem was vandalized overnight, Israel Today reports. Christian crosses were spray-painted in black across the front doors and windows of the Jewish house of worship.
Local authorities have opened an investigation into the incident. Wadi Abu Nasser, a local spokesman for the Catholic Church, condemned the apparent hate crime, stating, “All peoples should respect each other, especially the others’ holy sites.”
Recently, religious communities have been on high alert following a series of acts of vandalism and violence against important Jewish, Christian and Muslim sites.
The latest attack in the synagogue comes just days after a suspicious vehicle with gas cylinders was found outside the Bar Yohaye Jewish Community Center and synagogue in the southern city of Marseille. The gas cylinders had no trigger mechanism and was not stolen.
